How to choose the perfect lighting for every room

How to choose the perfect lighting for every room

The right lighting can completely transform the way a home looks and feels. Beyond simply illuminating a space, lighting creates atmosphere, highlights key features and makes every room more comfortable and functional.

The secret is simple: choose your lighting based on how each room is used.

Living Room: Create a warm atmosphere

The living room needs flexible lighting that works throughout the day. Start with a ceiling light or pendant for general illumination, then add floor and table lamps to create softer pools of light.

Placing a floor lamp beside a sofa or armchair can create a cosy reading corner, while smaller table lamps help make the room feel warm and inviting in the evening.

For a comfortable atmosphere, warm white lighting around 2700K–3000K is usually a great choice.

Kitchen: Focus on function

Kitchen lighting should be practical first, but that doesn't mean it can't make a statement.

Use ceiling lights for general illumination and add focused lighting above worktops and preparation areas. LED strips beneath cabinets are an easy way to provide additional task lighting.

For kitchen islands and breakfast bars, pendant lights combine function with style and can become a focal point of the room.

Dining room: Highlight the table

The dining table is the natural centre of the room, so let your lighting emphasise it.

A statement pendant positioned above the table creates a defined dining area and a more intimate atmosphere. For longer tables, consider a linear fixture or several smaller pendants.

Choosing a dimmable light also gives you flexibility between everyday meals and relaxed evening dinners.

Bedroom: Keep it soft

Bedroom lighting should feel calm and comfortable.

Combine soft general lighting with bedside table lamps, wall lights or small pendants. This creates different levels of illumination without relying on one overly bright ceiling fixture.

Warm white bulbs are particularly suitable for bedrooms, helping create a relaxing atmosphere at the end of the day.

Bathroom: Clear and practical

Bathrooms benefit from bright, even lighting, particularly around the mirror.

Combine general ceiling lighting with wall or mirror lights to reduce shadows and make everyday routines easier.

Remember that bathroom fixtures need to be suitable for areas exposed to moisture, so always check the appropriate IP rating before installation.

Home office: Light for focus

A good workspace combines ambient lighting with a dedicated desk lamp.

Position task lighting so your desk is clearly illuminated without creating glare on your screen. A more neutral white light can also help create a brighter, focused working environment.

Outdoor spaces: Light the way

Outdoor lighting can improve both safety and atmosphere.

Wall lights are ideal around entrances and terraces, while solar lights and lamp posts can illuminate pathways and garden areas.

Instead of using one very bright source, several smaller lights can create a softer and more welcoming outdoor setting.
